Meatballs

There are several kinds of meatballs available in Denmark.
Meatballs used for ’pålæg’ are usually fried:
Frikadeller: usually chopped pork and veal with onions and spices.
Krebinetter: chopped pork rolled in egg and breadcrumbs
Hakkebøf: chopped beef

Sausages

The sausages used for ’pålæg’ are usually thicker and more spicy than those you buy in hotdogs or eat for dinner. There are different kinds:
Spegepølse - salami like sausages - usually smoked and salted - there are hundreds of different kinds.
Kødpølse - mortadella like sausages - these don’t taste of much and are often popular with children
Rullepølse - meat roll - usually made from pork rolled with spices - there are varieties made from lamb or deer.
Pølse - half a traditional red Danish hot dog sausage, split and laid on bread (especially popular with children)
